Hall Spirit Banner Contests

Texas State University-San Marcos
Residence Life
Hall Spirit Banner Contest-- Football

Each Hall Council organization is encouraged to enter a series of banners in this year’s Hall Spirit Banner Contest. Prior to entering each week, your hall council must e-mail rha@txstate.edu to inform of their intention to enter a banner. The e-mail should include the location of the banner.

Entries should be posted on the outside of your residence hall by 10am the day before each game day.Entries should be removed at night (for security of banner- at your discretion) and then replaced by 10am on game day.

There are no size limitations. An old bed sheet is great material to use! If you are using paper, be sure to reinforce the corners and sides. Banners can range from the simple (a length of butcher paper taped to your front entrance) to the elaborate (a series of small banners lining the sidewalks of your hall, etc).

Banners may not cover any lighting or signage around your hall.  Any banner expressing even a hint of poor judgment or bad taste will be immediately removed and disqualified. If necessary, disciplinary process will follow.

Banners will be judged on creativity, originality, and overall spirit. Judging will take place either on the day before game day or on game day itself. All banners must be removed by the hall representatives immediately following the game. Winner for each game will be announced at corresponding RHA meetings. The traveling trophy will also be awarded at this time. (Previous winners of the traveling trophy must bring it to the RHA meetings.)

At the end of the football season, all judging results will be tabulated. The more banners entered by your hall, the higher your overall score. High quality of the banners plus the number of banners entered will result in the highest scores. The hall with the highest score will be named winner of the Hall Spirit Banner Contest.

This spirit contest will happen once per football season. Bragging rights, a yearly resting place for the traveling trophy, and an inscription of the Hall’s name will appear on the permanent plaque that hangs in the Residence Life Office, 320 JCK.

Good Luck.
